I love people and their stories, that’s why I work in communications. I’m inspired by people who follow their dreams, grab opportunities and take chances to build the life they long for. I love helping people to maximise their potential. So I've taken the plunge and set up Cat’s Pajamas.
The idea to branch out and set up on my own had been floating around in my mind for a while. Following a visualisation exercise in an amazing women leaders group I'm lucky enough to be part of, and then a gin and tonic fuelled afternoon with my partner at the Salcombe Gin Distillery bar I plucked up the courage to just give it a go! And Cat's Pajamas was born.
Loving communications and knowing how good, professional PR and communications can make or break a business has made me want to share my expertise and experience to help others. Fourteen years in healthcare communications has been incredible as the focus is always on people – staff, patients, local communities. I want to see how I can make an impact in my own local community, supporting people who have a real passion for what they do and who share my values and strong work ethic.
Growing up in the Shires I have been lucky enough to have some great local businesses on my doorstep. I am always drawn to independents and companies that have an interesting, unusual and unique story. This might be a bookstore, coffee shop, bar or clothes shop. I like the local feel, people who are working in their local community, building relationships and delivering their service/ product with devotion.
Knowing so many friends and colleagues who are setting up their own businesses to fulfil their life goals and build their futures has massively inspired me. I have been able to support local businesses, start-ups and community projects deliver on all aspects of PR, promotion and communications and I have loved it. Over the past year I have been reflecting on how I can use my knowledge and skills to follow my own dream to set up my own company.
I’ve toyed with the idea of working for myself for some time and never been brave enough to take the step – it has always felt too big and too scary. I have recently spent time with some amazing people who are challenging themselves and working hard to build lives they love. Some have changed industries and careers, some have set up their own companies and others are working on their side hustles. Hearing their stories, watching them achieve great things and seeing their successes made me realise we need to follow the things that bring us joy. Sometimes we just have to go for it!
So here we are, the Cat's Pajamas story begins. My love of all things Art Deco and vintage inspired the name and visual identity. My passion for communications and for supporting local ventures, start-ups and community projects are, I hope, a natural fit and I am looking forward to working with new clients to help them grow and flourish.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged and supported me so far, your stories and your passion have motivated and inspired me. Over the coming months I will share the story of Cat’s Pajamas via this blog and I hope you will follow along to find out how the journey progresses.
